Kakkanad is the nerve centre of IT business in Kochi with the InfoPark, Technopolis and CSEZ. It is also the centre of Ernakulam District administration with the Collectorate in the close vicinity of St. Francis Assisi church. All these have resulted in an influx of population in an unprecedented manner in and around Kakkanad. This has in turn necessitated a good number of educational instituions, business entreprises, hospitals and hospitality institutions. Bharat Matha College, Naipunnya School, Rajagiri Edicational Instiutions, Kusumagiri Mental Hospital & Autism Training centre, Sunrise Hospital are some of the noteable institutions in and around the parish boundary.
Assisi parish has a comparatively younger popuation and a rather homogeneously educated parishioners. Majority of them have come from different places and settled here. Hence, it is a community that welcomes everyone whole heartedly irrespective of their education, profession, financial status etc..
